The mean is the “average.” It is the sum (total) of all values in a data set, divided by the number of values in the data set.  In statistics, it is a measure of central tendency of a probability distribution along median and mode.

Calculating the Mean

  1. Add up all data values to get the sum
  2. Count the number of values in your data set
  3. Divide the sum by the count

Example of Mean

Example: The mean of , and 7 is 4, so the mean of 4,1, and 7 is 4.
